One month is gone and autumn is in full range. Kaspars has been most of this time in Riga. At the moment he has three-week sport pedagogy session, but during this semester his physiotherapy studies are also very intensive. Because he didn’t get place in the hostel this year, he had to find some other place to live in Riga. Apartments in Riga are really expensive, but God has been providing places to stay. He has been using our friend’s apartment, when she was abroad for three weeks and now he got a place through friend’s friends till Christmas. This is a studio-apartment not far from the school and he needs to pay only for electricity. It is clear that we can’t continue this way and in March we hope to move closer to Riga. We hope to find an apartment we can afford in Jurmala (what is actually known by expensive apartments).
In addition to Kaspars’ studies we also started small group activity for the people with disabilities in the Riga. At the moment it is once a month (first one was 5th of October and next one will be 9th of November) and we are having good time in fellowship and sharing what God is doing in our lives.
Even that Kaspar is really busy with studying, he has found time to continue to teach English. When he started, these people where atheists, but now one of them is visiting regularly YWAM Sunday services and sometimes has taken her husband with her (who also studied English). We have seen how God is working in their lives. Kaspar never preached to them, just was teaching English, had time to listen to them and when they asked, gave Christian literature to read. They are not saved yet, but really close to it.
During Tuesdays we are helping the YWAM training centre as usually. Kaspar is doing practical work and I help in the office (preparing address lists, helping to send out advertisements, preparing phone bills etc.). I am also asked to help with International Christian Social Project (this year I called it humanitarian and evangelist project in South of Latvia), what is mainly organised by YWAM Stockholm. My work is to coordinate Latvian participants (same like I did this year in Dagda). Next year it will be held again in the south of Latvia (one of the poorest region in EU) in a town called Balvi and will take part 23rd of February still 2nd of March. Hopefully it will not disturb our packing and moving on 6th of March.
Before Kaspars went to study, we had often situation that I had really a lot of work and he didn’t have so much. At the moment our situation is changed, because I haven’t found work with the people with physical disabilities close to home. I am studying Latvian, researching “Depression and the Bible” (lecture theme) for next summer camp and I have found time to do things that were on hold for a while. A couple of these things I would like to share with you. There is our web page on address: blogs.ywam.lv/apinis It is not totally ready yet, but you can check in time-to-time to see changes. We also have new (and some older) photos out in Internet: picasaweb.google.com/evelyn.apinis
