Times of Uncertainty

Greetings from Latvia!

It is time to give an update on us and Wings for Wheels.

Wings for Wheels
have been working online on Zoom for over a year already. Small group is going well and it will always stay online, as it has proven to be a confortable format for people with disabilities living outside of Riga. During this spring we also organized a 6-session leadership program on the Zoom platform. We have four students and we have finished the theory part. I (Evelyn) found some topics very challenging for teaching from a distance, as I am not able to read body language and see the signs of interest or boredom from people. At the same time, students were supportive and able to learn in this challenging situation. At the moment, they are still in the practice/outreach part. We dream to have the graduation all together in person at some point in June, but it depends on whether it will be allowed.

Same can be said of our “Morning Dew 3” camp what we are planning for July 2-4, 2021 at Vecmuiza. We will have 7-10 participants and all together not more than 30 people. All activities (except housing) are planned outside. We have everything ready, but we are still waiting to see if there are enough participants who are interested and if the government will allow it. So there is a 50-50 possibility – the camp will take place or not. 🙂 We will know more in June. Please pray for this situation, because it´s not nice to plan for things in uncertainty.

Personal News

Uncertainty is a challenge also in our personal lives. Usually, we visit Hiiumaa, Estonia during every school holiday and sometimes even some other times. The last time we were on Hiiumaa was during Christmas and before that, last summer. Children are mentioning Hiiumaa every day, missing it and their extended family greatly. Karola (4) often explains to Rebeka (3): “We cannot go to Hiiumaa, because there is a virus and everybody is sick. Only granny is not sick!” 🙂 Kaspar would actually be able to take kids to Estonia for a weekend, as he is fully vaccinated, but Latvian rules demand that the children stay in a 10-day quarantine when they return. This makes it impossible at the moment. We still hope it will change, but even if not, we will be there longer during July and August.

Otherwise children are doing well. Girls are going to kindergarten and Rasmus has only last week of school left. Distant study really does not fit him, so we hope that the next school year will be easier. There is a big possibility that the next school year will be the last for us in Latvia and we are hoping that it will be as normal as possible.

Please pray
for Wings for Wheels and for us, that we would have peace and understanding for how to lead the ministry and family during uncertainty. Please pray for our transition time when we are preparing to move to Hiiumaa. It is certain that we will move, but everything else around it is not clear. We trust that God has it all figured out and we will see it when the time comes.

Thank you for your financial support, prayers and encouragements! It is allowing us to continue our ministry and to finish it well when the time comes.

Blessings,
Evelyn, Kaspars, Rasmus, Karola, Rebeka and
Wings for Wheels team
