Once upon a time (in July 2016), a little girl was born. Her mother had good intentions of taking care of her, but it did not go as well as planned. The three weeks old girl was placed in foster care where she was well taken care of. She loved her foster mommy and especially she loved their little dog. After a short while her mother gave permission for adoption. At the same time, Apinis family had been waiting for their little girl already for thousands of years (Rasmus´ expression). At last in mid-February, they got a phone call from the government with a request to check their e-mail. A description of a little girl had come along with a couple of photos. When half of the photos were downloaded, Kaspar thought that there had been a mistake and a photo of little Rasmus had been sent. It was obvious that their long waited daughter has been found.
After some visits and paper work she arrived at her new home on March 7th. It wasn’t easy for her – new mommy and daddy, new brother, new language (Estonian), new name (we call her Karola) and no pets. During the first days she was very calm and very sad. But already couple of days later she started to open up. Social worker visited us a week later and was surprised over how good of a connection we already have. Two weeks later our Karola is a normal behaving child who laughs, makes trouble, gets bored and shows off. She does get sad sometimes and as she seems to have really good memories, we guess she misses her dog. At the same time she has gained weight and has got a good appetite (she has had problems with being underweight), she speaks better Latvian than Estonian, but she does understand surprisingly much. It seems that English cannot be used as secret language either. We are very happy about how it has turned out.
Please keep us in prayer that we will grow into one family and will become really fond of each other. Please pray also for Rasmus who has never needed to share his parents, toys and time.
If you have more questions or want to help us, please contact us by e-mail.
We have another request: when you meet us and Karola, please do not take photos of her. She is so cute that you are tempted to. As she is in pre-adoptional care we do not own all her rights. I hope you respect her privacy till the adoption is completed.
