August 3, 2024, was a day to remember. Even the weather couldn’t decide whether to be cool and rainy or sunny and warm. On this day, Wings for Wheels gathered on Dole Island, located on the Daugava River. Spending the day on the island—now more of a peninsula—sparked the idea to call the gathering “Treasure Island.” After morning coffee and fellowship, we transitioned to a time of worship. Led by Valdis Dvorovs, nostalgic worship songs from past camps set the stage for the next part—the lecture. We listened and discussed the theme: God’s Truth.
For lunch, we were served what most considered the “best soup in the world,” and feeling fully satisfied, we were ready to learn about the island’s history. By then, the initially cool weather had decided to turn summer-hot, allowing us to fully enjoy the tour and museum visit. Once back at the event site, we quickly regrouped; despite the rainy weather, we “flew” virtually to Hong Kong and enjoyed this fascinating city through the eyes of a Latvian who had lived there.
After returning from Hong Kong, as the weather warmed up once more, we sat in the sun, listening to the Good News of Jesus and sharing our joys and challenges with each other. We ended the day with fellowship around a table piled with pizzas.
Thanks to all supporters and prayer partners. Treasure Island 2 on Dole Island gave us new strength to carry on for the next year online. It’s wonderful to spend a full day together in fellowship. Next year, we’ll meet face-to-face again!
